Training a Cow Dog on Cattle
When first training a cow dog on cattle, there are three things we focus on.
- Teaching them it’s exciting to find cattle and group them.
- To stay on their side of the cattle, opposite from handler.
- And to remember previous commands even when distracted by the cattle (“Down”, “Come”, and “Behind”)
At 13 months, Reata has been on cattle about 5 times here.
