Dagley’s Stoney, was 22 months old when he won the title HTCA 2021 Supreme Reserve Champion!

The Supreme class is only for Supreme Qualified Hangin Tree Cowdogs. David and Stoney were able to complete the Supreme Course in front of the judges at the qualifier the day before the 2021 HTCA Futurity, upgrading Stoney’s registration to Supreme Qualified and making him eligible to compete in the Supreme Class.

The Supreme class can be quite the challenge as it starts with a “blind fetch”.

We are so proud of Stoney, he had a perfect score all three days, and only came in second because his time was slower than the Supreme Champion.

Dagley’s Stoney is a Supreme Qualified Hangin Tree Cowdog out of Trayer’s Savage Sam and Trayers’ Marti. Stoney was handled and owned by David Dagley.

This video was filmed on site at the 2021 Hangin Tree Cowdog Futurity near Seymour, Texas.

Come along with Reata, Annie and Stoney as we move the cattle to fresh pasture. There is plenty of action packed in this video, with run away cattle, a run away dog, and more. Not everything goes perfect, but we had fun, and we got the job done!

Moving the cattle is not always as simple as opening a gate to the next pasture. For this move we have to cross through intersecting pastures, gates, and roads. There is only one right way for the cattle to go to get there, and it is up to us to guide them.

Stoney is a 15 month old Registered Hangin Tree Cowdog, and Reata and Annie are both Supreme Qualified Hangin Tree Cowdogs. David Dagley has been training them to help gather and move cattle, and they are turning out to be exceptional ranch hands!

Trailer Loading 8 Yearling Bulls with Stoney, a Hangin Tree Cowdog

David Dagley and Dagley’s Stoney go out to the pasture and load 8 yearling bulls into a trailer so they can haul them down to the corral where the vet will test them.

Stoney is a registered Hangin Tree Cowdog out of Trayer’s Savage Sam x Trayer’s Marti. He was 17 months old in this video. David has been training Stoney since he was a pup, and is very happy with how he is turning out.

It is always fun when we get a cowdog to the level where we can use them to get a job done on the ranch!

Spring Cattle Work – Part 1

When the roundup doesn’t go as planned!

Follow along as David Dagley and his Hangin Tree Cowdogs round up over four hundred fifty head of cows, get them out of the hay yard, and bring them into the corral for our Spring Cattle Working Day!

Pasture Sorting Bulls With Stoney – Supreme Hangin Tree Cowdog

Join David Dagley, his Cowdog Stoney, and his horse Pinch as they search across a few hundred acres of pasture for the six bulls that they need to sort off from the bull herd, then load them into the trailer to take back to the home corrals!

I had been moving the yearlings along this water reservoir. They were going to circle around on me,

so I sent Stoney through the water to cut across, get ahead, and turn them back.
It also allowed Stoney to cool off.

Stoney Moving Cattle Under a 3 Wire

Stoney moving some yearlings under a three wire fence for me.
We’re moving the cattle through some of our winter pastures to get over to more of our summer pasture.

Stoney and Reata Moving Cow Calf Pairs

A couple of our cowdogs, Stoney and Reata, moving our first calf heifer pairs to fresh pasture.
You might notice we also have a few older cows in with them. They were brought in from the main herd for special care, then turned out with these 2 yr olds so we could keep a close eye on them.
It was just one of those beautiful kind of mornings, so I thought I would share some of it with you!

Stoney Getting Respect from a Pair

We were moving this cow and her calf through the corral to work them and then turn them back out to pasture.
Because the cow was a little bit lame and had a calf, she thought she’d rather stand and fight instead of moving off the dog.
We try to use pressure and release to teach the cow to move off the dog.
Most important part is to ease off the pressure when the cow is going the right way.

Stoney Moving the Billy Goats Slow

Stoney moving the billy goats slow and steady, away from the pond. We are moving them from their pond pasture to fresh pasture. They didn’t want to leave the pond at first. But once they saw the fresh grass the were very happy.

Granite and Stoney Moving Cattle

It was Granite’s first time on something besides training cattle.
He was pretty confused at first, but once Stoney had them all gathered up, Granite started covering the outside with pretty well.

I got it wrong in the video. Granite wasn’t 1 yr until the 12th of August, 2022.

Dagley’s Stoney – Supreme Hangin Tree Stud Dog

The 2021 HTC Supreme Reserve Champion, Dagley’s Stoney is one of our Supreme Registered Hangin Tree Cowdogs and a 2021 HTC Futurity Finalist.

As Stoney is maturing he’s really learning to keep his adrenaline down and work calm and steady. Stoney has been one of our main go to ranch dogs, and we are really excited about what we’ve seen in his offspring so far.

We are proud to have Dagley’s Stoney as one of our stud dogs here at Dagley Ranch.

Stoney is out of Trayer’s Savage Sam and Trayer’s Marti, and will be 3 years old on December 19th, 2022.

Pasture Loading Bred Heifers with Stoney and Pinch

Cattle are a lot smarter than most people realize. We feel like it’s worth our time to train them, so that we can care for them and handle them in a low stress manner.

And when your using your bred heifers to get your young dogs ready for trialing, the bred heifers sure end up nice and gentle!

Here David is using his cowdog Stoney and his horse Pinch to help him train our bred heifers to pasture load calmly.

Stoney Helps Get the Cattle Settled In

When there is snow on the ground, we like to spread out some bedding so the cattle have a dry place to lie down.
Here we are spreading out some prairie grass bales that was put up late in the year and didn’t have much nutritional value.
We are using Stoney, one of our Hangin Tree Cowdogs, to show the cattle where we spread it out.
